MARTA MARTINO

Marta Martino is a multifaceted creative talent, whose work teeters on the border between art, design and fashion.

Based in Veneto, Martino has worked with the likes of Antwerp Six, Max Mara and New York Industrie, and currently is the creative director of the fine jewelry brand Peruffo. Since 2016 she has been working on costume design and fashion direction projects in the music and art scene also collaborating with other artists on performance pieces including Esmay Wagemans, Emma Waltraud Howes, Zachary Tye Richardson, Ligia Lewis, Justin Kennedy and Isabelle Wenzel.

Her personal work has delved into visual arts through painting, performance and sculpture. Martino aims for her work to be undefinable, she prefers her work to be open to interpretation, rooted in the exploration of shifting identities.

“I think I can never fully express myself, and that's probably why I always long for changes.  I believe I can express myself at my best when I manage to delve into the same concept in different fields and disciplines.”

Many of her pieces play with the body, reality and potential. She creates works with the repetitive use of basic elements taken to their extreme.

“I often find myself working on issues of constraint, overexposure and
stigmatization. I am interested in taboos, the concept of decency, censorship, normality, abnormality and potential, the relation between intention and action. On the aesthetic level, I like to work with basic elements, repeated and taken to the extreme, so that they acquire a new meaning, a different weight from their unitary, reformulating the existing."

In 2022 Martino moved part of her studio to Brighton UK.
